End of funding for AHDS History

Due to the AHRC and JISC's recent decision to stop funding the AHDS from 1 April 2008 AHDS History will be unable to routinely accept deposits of data from 1 October 2007 for free preservation and dissemination. If your project was funded by the ESRC you should continue to offer your data to the ESDS using the ESDS Data Submission Form. If your project was not funded by the ESRC you should contact a member of staff at AHDS History to discuss the potential costs of depositing your data with the UK Data Archive for long-term preservation and dissemination.

Depositing Data (note this was AHDS History's policy prior to October 2007)

AHDS History welcomes copies of historical digital resources for preservation and dissemination to the research and teaching community.

Data collections are accessioned for all periods, from ancient history through to 1945, and although the primary focus is on the UK, cross-national data collections are regularly accessioned. Data are accepted in a variety of formats, including ASCII files, database files, spreadsheet files, image files and SGML marked-up texts, and on a variety of media including CD-ROMs and disks, as well as via FTP.

When a data collection is deposited with the AHDS History we validate it, make archival copies to ensure its long-term preservation, and create a full catalogue record describing it which is included in both the AHDS Cross-search Catalogue and the UKDA Data Catalogue. AHDS History also manages the distribution of the data collection to users in the research and teaching community, and regulates access in accordance with the terms and conditions chosen by the depositor.
