AHDS Executive: e-Research Enhancing e-Research The Centre for e-Research has been established at King's College London.
Based in Information Systems and Services, it will lead on building an e-research environment and data management infrastructure at King’s, seeking to harness the potential of IT to enhance research and teaching practice across the College, and to encourage innovation in the use of ICT. The Centre will contribute to the integration of ICT into teaching with a particular focus on using ICT in distance learning, building on the innovative work already undertaken within the departments of War Studies and Dentistry. The Centre will incorporate the Arts and Humanities Data Service and its related projects, and build on the legacy of the AHDS to bid for and host national and international projects and services. The Centre will offer a range of business services to ensure that its expertise is available to the wider community beyond King's. The Centre for e-Research is part of wider plans to develop a connected campus for King's College London. Connected Campus is a 3-year programme designed to align all of ISS’s technological and information initiatives with the objectives outlined in the College’s new 10-year Strategic Plan 2006-2016. It will play a key role in underpinning and contributing to the College’s vision of enhancing quality and distinction in all areas of business activity, supported by world-class professional services and infrastructure Planning for the new Centre began on 1st October 2007 with a launch date expected in Spring 2008. The Centre for e-Research (CeRch) aims to research, develop and implement an e-research infrastructure across King's College London. Much of its initial work will focus on delivering the VRE and data management aspects of the College Connected Campus plans. The Centre will also play a leading role in national and international developments relating to e-research, and to develop and offer business services based on its skills and expertise. The Centre has five key aims: - to undertake research across the broad spectrum of e-research, e-infrastructure, and knowledge management
- to work across all departments within King’s to support existing e-research and research and teaching data, to extend e-research into new areas,
and to encourage innovation in the use of ICT in research and teaching practice - to take a leading role in developing an infrastructure for ICT in teaching with a particular focus on using ICT in distance learning
