Common Repository Interfaces Working Group

Description | Project Details and Contacts| Documents

Description

JISC has set up the Common Repository Interfaces Working Group (CRIG) to identify and address priorities for enhancing interoperability between the emerging base of UK repositories. The WoCRIG project is funded by JISC to provide expert support on technical and other matters to the CRIG, and beyond them to the JISC repositories programmes in general.

The main objectives are:

  • WoCRIG is the support project for the CRIG, and its overall aim is to ensure the successful delivery of the CRIG Workplan 2007-8 (see http://www.ukoln.ac.uk/repositories/digirep/images/4/46/Common_Repository_Interfaces_Group_workplan_Sept07.doc).

Specifically, the project has the following objectives:

  • to plan and facilitate a workshop (unconference) to help the CRIG to identify the interfaces implied by the key CRIG scenarios, and to determine to what extent these are supported by existing specifications.
  • to create clearly documented Service Usage Models (SUMs) based on the common functions and interfaces.
  • to evaluate the applicability of existing specifications against the scenarios and interfaces.
  • to plan and facilitate a number of 'barcamp'/'codebash'/ 'code-a-thon' interoperability events to address the issues around the interfaces and specifications.
  • to plan and facilitate follow-up interoperability events, working with developers of repository-related software, and in particular with those working on projects in the JISC repository programmes.
  • to contribute to a review in 2008 of CRIG-related activities.
